Check Engine light

From Your Friendly Mechanic Team at El Patron Tires.

The most common reasons your Check Engine light comes on:

1. Gas Cap.

If your gas cap is loose, wasn’t closed properly, or the seal is worn out, fuel vapors can escape and trigger the Check Engine light. Simple fix — but don’t ignore it!

2. Oxygen Sensors.

When the air/fuel mixture is off, your O2 sensors and catalytic converters can get clogged. This causes your vehicle to lose power and burn more fuel than it should.

3. Spark Plugs, Coils, or Wires.

These can cause intermittent misfires, incomplete fuel combustion, and increased fuel consumption. We always check these based on your vehicle’s year and model.

4. Catalytic Converter.

This usually gets damaged as a result of ignoring the issues in #2 and #3 above. Catching problems early saves you from a much more expensive repair.

5. MAF Sensor (Mass Airflow Sensor).

This sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine so it can properly balance the air/fuel mixture. When it fails, your engine can’t run efficiently.

6. EVAP System or Vacuum Leak.

Cracked or broken hoses allow unmetered air into the engine, causing rough running, loss of power, stalling, and higher fuel consumption.

These are the most common causes — other factors may also be involved. For an accurate diagnosis, call us at 702-888-0060 or visit us at 2520 N. Las Vegas Blvd, 89030.
